Tree Quilt

It is rare when I can get a quilt done from start to finish in less than a week.  I was actually able to accomplish that that week and I love the results.

I had seen a similar tree applique on a few different pieces.  I just hadn't found the perfect quilt to use it on.

This Super 9 block was cut a while back (talking years ago) when I wasn't quite as educated on the quilting process.  The center block is directional and going the wrong direction.  LOL!  It worked out perfect for this tree because I needed a short but wide area.

The tree is on a cream fabric that has a gold shimmer.  I quilted detail on the leaves and tree trunk.

In the open areas I did a couple of varieties of meandering.  In the corner squares, I included one large leaf.

Back of quilted leaf.

I adore this backing.  I got it at Ikea of all places.

I'm going to cry after it is all gone.

This piece was originally designed to be a lap quilt but given it's horizontal nature, it would make a wonderful wall hanging.  You could also drape it over the back of a couch.  Don't forget to visit Etsy to see more pictures of this listing and many others!

New listings!!

It has been a while since I've put new items up on Etsy.  I made a few things last summer, then we packed up and moved.  I never got to post them and they have been at the bottom of my to do list.  It would have been more timely to have them up before the 4th of July, given the nature of the pieces.  I love them both for different reasons.  They will be very hard to part with.

The first piece is a patchwork table runner.  I did 3 reverse applique stars on each end.  To give the stars a little poof, I added additional batting under the stars.  You can view more details about this runner here.

The other piece is a flag wall hanging.  This piece was so much fun to make.  You can make this over and over and never replicate it exactly.  There is a ton of detail on this quilt.  The stars were FMQ individually, by me.  There are clouds in the blue area and spirals in the border.  You can see more detailed pictures here.

Enjoy the pieces!  Feel free to ask any questions.

This week's projects

First and foremost, I am going to clean my quilting area. It is pretty scary in there, after last week's show preparations.

I'm going to work on some summer and 4th of July items. I, also, have an idea for a religious wall hanging that involves gold glitter material and a cross. I do love anything that sparkles!

I'll take some WIP pictures and share as I go this week.

My Etsy shop will be back up soon. I have to rearrange, since I did a show over the weekend. Expect to see it back open by the end of the week.

Have a great Monday!

Very busy week ahead....

Good evening!

I have finished the appliqued blocks for The Giving Tree quilt. I hope to have that pieced by tomorrow and binded by the end of the week. If I get a chance tomorrow, I will tease you all with a few pictures.

Emma will be celebrating her half birthday at school on Thursday. The school encourages kids with summer birthdays to celebrate them during the school year. So, at her request, we will be make chocolate bunny cupcakes.

I'm also gearing up for my first show in April. I am a bit nervous. Fortunately, I am too excited to be concerned about my nervousness. Lots of planning is involved. And *LOTS* of fabric shopping. I truly believe I quilt, as an excuse to buy fabric. Nothing makes me as giddy as fabric. Well nothing besides lists. I *LOVE* making lists. Which is good because I need to make some lists in preparation for the show. I love buying list making supplies. White dry erase boards, colorful Sharpies, post it notes, and on and on and on.

What is it about office supplies that is so fun and comforting? I remember when I worked, before becoming a SAHM, and we would receive our shipment of supplies. It was like freaking Christmas. Or a pack of hungry wolves being thrown a fresh lamb. Depending on your office environment. And there was always a gate keeper to the supplies, who took their gatekeeping job just a tad too seriously. It was as if their entire life built to this moment of deciding who was going to get *the* purple pad of Post-it Notes and who was stuck with the regular yellow ones. I will admit to kissing a rear or two for those damned purple notes. Pride doesn't make me quite as happy as bright, cheery purple Post-it Notes.

I digress...

Which will happen a lot around here....

Between my planning, list making, mad shopping frenzies, cupcakes and regular life, I might be scarce until the end of the week. I will try to continue fitting in blog time a little each night.

I wanted to end today with a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr.:

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

This quotes reminds me to stay grounded to my beliefs, regardless of the challenges and controversy I may face. And more importantly, to teach my kids to do the same.

Namaste,
